Getting arrested isn't exactly a large ordeal in china for foreigners, and typically involves drinking tea with the police while they tell you you're crazy for doing what you're doing.. They then check your camera's pictures to make sure you're not a spy, while making a million copies of your passport and visa, practice their english with you and then ask to take a picture with you. Legally you're supposed to check in with police and tell them where you'll stay when you enter a town, before you're even allowed to find a hotel which doesn't make all to much sense.
